Practical PV energy harvesting under real indoor lighting conditions

Indoor light can be used as a new energy source to power µW low consumption wireless sensor networks (WSNs), but for electronic devices consuming tens of mW, it is still challenging. The challenge comes from the level irradiance and several kinds combinations varying in time (multi-spectral direct, reflective, scattered mix artificial natural light). This article describes simple reliable method that provides model-based evaluation harvestable any real indoor environment. uses ‘real condition’ spectral measurements with spectrometer well ‘controlled optoelectrical characteristics photovoltaic solar cells. has been compared microsource prototypes based on commercial cells powering e-ink display (more than 10 mW averaged day). In this article, we show possible evaluate energy, days exposure, an error lower 6%. Our method, such accuracy range, will helpful tool assist engineers researchers designing harvesting systems more generally could find wide application growing IoT ecosystem.
